Song Background
Written in 1938 by Hoagy Carmichael with lyrics by Ned Washington, the classic song The Nearness of You has been recorded by many artists in different genres over the years. I was first introduced to the song by Martin Taylor on his album “Kiss and Tell”. It’s a great song to play on the guitar and I’ve listed some of my favourite versions below.
Guitar Chord Progression Analysis

Throughout the songs chord progression you will find many of the standard chord movements used in songs of this era. Check out some of the chord analysis pages below where I take you through some these standard movements. The song has a lovely melody so if making up your own chord melody arrangements is beyond you at the moment, dust down those vocal chords !Chord Progression Analysis –
