Song Background
Written in 1953 by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, lyrics by Johnny Mercer, Satin Doll is a Jazz standard that has been recorded by many many artists including Ella Fitzgerald, and Frank Sanatra. It is often used in Jazz Education as a great example of the use of the II-V-I turnaround which is used extensively throughout the chord progression.
