I’ve moved the key of this progression up a semitone from the normal key of Eb to E so as to make best use of the guitar’s open strings. Tones and Semitones are the building blocks of harmony. If you’d like to find out more, I cover semitones and tones in our modular guitar course.

The first three notes of the melody for Misty are very recognisable, the first two forming a minor third. For students of the guitar course, this is the tune I use to recognise the minor 3rd interval. I’d advise listening to Ella Fitzgerald’s vocal, listed in the songbook pages, before learning the chords to get the phrasing into your head.
