Inspired by an extract from the Kenneth White poem “The Shaman’s Way”, I’ve created this skeleton composition, a composition with space to allow for open expression. To collaborate, click here for some compositional ideas or alternatively, just go for it !

Extract From “The Shaman’s Way” by Kenneth White

I beat on the drum
and the birds come
the birds fly all around me
hear their wings !

now the gull talks through me
ka kayagaya ka!
now the crow
kra krarak krarak!
now the heron
fraak fraak fraak!
now the great white goose
kaigaikak kaigaikak!

I dance the bird dance
look at my wings!

I fly from place to place
wings firm in the wind
higher and higher I go
with the great sea eagle
with the wild eyed gannet

higher up, ever higher
now I’m nothing but a moving silence

sea eagle
