Moon River Combined Arrangement Guitar Measures 17 & 18

This lesson will teach you how to play measures 17 & 18 of the combined arrangement solo guitar version of Moon River. To listen to the Guitar Tab for the whole song, go to the GUITAR Tab video. An essential part of any performance of a tune is that the melodic line should be heard clearly above the accompanying notes. Go to the MELODY Measures 17 & 18 page to revise the melody for these measures. If you want to impress, let that melody fly! Video Script:

in this combined arrangement guitar solo the first melody note is supported by the root of the accompanying chord, A

for A, play the 5th string open

while playing these two notes, have your left hand up at the fifth fret ready to play another A, an octave higher, with the

3rd finger, on the 4th string, 7th fret

followed by the

2nd finger, on the 3rd string, 6th fret

The Guitar Tabs on the bottom of the video screen will help you find where to place your left hand fingers

for the rhythm of this measure

count 1 an, 2, 3

in the second of these two measures, play the original melody with the

4th finger, on the 1st string, 7th fret

follow this note with the

4th finger, on the 1st string, 5th fret

supported by the

2nd finger, on the 4th string, 4th fret

to complete the measure in this acoustic guitar solo, for the rhythm of this measure

count 1, 2, 3

This arrangement could as easily sit with the title of  “Jazz Guitar Arrangement” or “Classical Guitar Lesson” and be interesting to players from both genres.
