This lesson will teach you how to play the melody in measures 1 & 2 of Cry me a River. To listen to the Melody Tab for the whole song go to the MELODY TAB video. Go to the COMBINED ARRANGEMENT Measures 1 & 2 page to find out what notes could be added to the melody, or the CHORDS Lesson Measures 1 & 2 page to find out how to play the supporting chords.

Video Script:

the first note in these two measures is played by the

4th finger, on the 1st string, 7th fret

for the next three notes

bar the 3rd to 1st strings at the 5th fret, with the 1st finger

with the right hand

“a” plays the 1st string

“m” plays the 2nd string

“i” plays the 3rd string

for the rhythm of the first of these two measures

count 1, 2, 3 an, 4 an

for the first of the guitar notes in the next measure

play the 2nd string open

followed by the

3rd finger, on the 4th string, 7th fret

for the rhythm of both measures together

count 1, 2, 3 an, 4 an, 1 an, 2, 3, 4

The arrangement of the melody and the manner in which the melody is played in this lesson could easily sit with the title “Jazz Guitar lesson” or “Classical Guitar lesson” and should be interesting to players from both genres
