This lesson will teach you how to play measures 5 & 6 of the Combined Arrangement of Cry me a River for a solo guitar performance. To listen to the Guitar Tab for the whole song go to the COMBINED ARRANGEMENT GUITAR TAB video. An essential part of any performance of an arrangement of a tune is that the melodic line should be heard clearly above the accompanying notes. Go to the MELODY Measures 5 & 6 page to revise the melody for these measures. If you want to impress, let that melody fly! Go to CHORDS Measures 5 & 6 page to revise the chords for these measures.
Video Script:
In this combined arrangement for solo guitar performance, in the first of these measures, the original melody is harmonised by the
1st finger, on the 2nd string, 5th fret
and the
1st finger, on the 4th string, 5th fret
use a bar to play the 3 notes together
and to play the second melody note use the
3rd finger, on the 1st string, 6th fret
followed by the first finger bar at the
1st string, 5th fret
The Guitar Tabs on the bottom of the video screen will help you find where to place your left hand fingers
for the last two notes of the first of these measures place your
3rd finger, on the 1st string, 6th fret
2nd finger, on the 3rd string, 6th fret
1st finger, on the 4th string, 5th fret
lift the 3rd finger off for the last note, played by the 1st finger bar at the 5th fret
to complete this in this acoustic guitar solo, in the second of these two measures, for the original melody note, place the
4th finger, on the 2nd string, 5th fret
and harmonise with the
3rd finger, on the 3rd string, 5th fret
and the
2nd finger, on the 4th string, 4th fret
these two notes are from the harmonising D7 chord
finish off the measure with the original melody
This arrangement could as easily sit with the title of “Jazz guitar arrangement” or “classical guitar arrangement” and be interesting to players from both genres.
